The company Mercator Ocean in the form of a civil company, whose registered office is at 2 Av. de l'Aérodrome de Montaudran, 31400 Toulouse, and its sub-contractors are keen to protect your private information.

Mercator Ocean takes the privacy of its website visitors and clients very seriously. The purpose of this privacy policy is to explain the processing of personal data carried out by MERCATOR OCEAN on the site on which you are browsing.

The data we collect is necessary to process your requests or to provide you with the services you request.
In addition, certain data may be collected to perform a service or contract to which you are a party, for example featuring on the Atlas.


At what point do we collect personal data about you?      
We may collect personal data about you in the following cases:

  • When you register on the OceanPrediction DCC.
  • When you register your institution.
  • When you submit a use case.
  • When you submit an ocean forecasting system.
  • When you use the contact form.
  • When you create a forum thread.
  • When you contribute to the ETOOFs Wiki.
  • When you register for an event.
  • When browsing the website.
  • When you subscribe to our newsletter.

You are responsible for providing accurate and adequate personal data.

We process your personal data because you have given your consent to the processing of your personal data for one or more specific purposes described in this privacy statement, in line with Article 5(1)(d) of Regulation (EU) 2018/1725.

We ask you to attach a photocopy of your identity card to your request and to specify the right you wish to exercise.

How long is your data kept for?
Your personal data is stored in a technical secure environment.

Depending on the purpose and processing of the personal collected data, the retention period may be different. 

The IP address is kept for a period that cannot exceed one year.

User registration data (profile, organization, ocean forecasting system, use cases), contributions in the forum and on the wiki will be kept until the end of the programme and can be deleted on specific request from the user. 

Other personal data is kept for a period that cannot exceed three (3) years after your last use of the website or your last contact with MERCATOR OCEAN (regarding the use of our newsletter and the filling of one of our contact forms).


What is a cookie?
The word cookie is used here in the broad sense to designate all the computer tracers and other files deposed on the terminal equipment of a user during the consultation of the website or the opening of an email.

The cookies placed make possible to ensure the proper functioning of the website and to perform the following operations:

  • Memorize information relating to a form that you have filled out on the website.

  • The employees and company executives of MERCATOR OCEAN
  • The OceanPrediction DCC co-design team and regional experts.
  • The police authorities in the context of the judicial requisitions.
  • The administrative and judicial authorities are authorized to search for and identify the offender in strict compliance with the legal provisions.

The company also calls on subcontractors to carry out the following operations according to the instructions indicated:

  • Hosting Services.
  • Statistical analysis.
  • Website development

Data shared on the ATLAS (expert profile, organisation, use case, ocean forecasting system) is available for any visitor on the website to see. 

Is your data transferred outside the European Union?

Yes for data you choose to make visible on the ATLAS, which is public. All other data is kept private (see section on recipients of data).
 

How do we protect your personal data?

We take various technical security measures to ensure the security of your personal data and prevent its disclosure, destruction, or loss, including:

  • Passwords are subject to encryption in the database.
  • TLS is used when you use a form containing personal data.
  • Access to the database containing personal data is strictly limited to persons authorized by the company.
  • The persons authorized by the company are made aware of the protection of personal data.
     

Modification of the confidentiality policy

The company reserves the right to modify the present confidentiality policy and to warn the users by any means.
