"Forecast systems are fundamental assets for emergency response and everyday management of coastal regions."
The OPENCoastS service builds on-demand hydrodynamic and water quality forecast systems for user-selected sections worldwide and maintains them running operationally everyday. This daily service generates forecasts of water levels, 2D and 3D velocities, including wave and current interaction, wave parameters and water quality variables over the spatial region of interest for periods of 48 hours, based on numerical simulations of the relevant physical, chemical and biological processes.
Forcing conditions at the boundaries and over the domain are defined by the user from regional and global forecast repositories. Automatic comparison with quasi-real-time in-situ sensor data can be performed at EMODnet tidal stations, and processed Sentinel images can be provided to assess inundation forecasts."
