The Iberia Biscay Irish – Monitoring Forecasting Centre (IBI MFC) delivers an operational marine monitoring and forecasting regional service for the European Atlantic facade (the Iberia-Biscay-Ireland zone).

IBI MFC bases its activity mainly on two principles:

  • Efficient operation and delivery of an accurate marine service, based on scientific excellence.
  • Generation of high quality products customized for the IBI region (by means of using high resolution models with a complete description of processes).

The system is based on a numerical ocean model assimilating in situ and satellite data. It was originally developed by Mercator Océan and Puertos del Estado along the MyOcean Projects. Currently, it is developed and operated by a consortium of Centres, coordinated by Mercator Océan and that includes Nologin Consulting, MeteoFrance and the CESGA Supercomputing Centre.

The highly qualified multidisciplinary IBI MFC Team, composed by scientist and technicians from the above mentioned institutions, guarantees to properly accomplish the tasks required to sustain an operational core regional service as the one provided.
